Paul Wilson grew up in La Habra, California.
After college, he spent three years in the U.S. Army. He
then headed into police work where he served for 18 years before retiring
from the force. During that time, Paul's interest in tile led him
to also become a licensed California tile contractor. His traditional
approach to the installation of stone and ceramic tile on floors,
tub surrounds, showers, countertops, fireplaces, exterior building
facades led to many loyal customers.
Paul is currently a ceramic tile consultant
and still does limited contracting for his most special clients. He
holds the honorary position as the assistant director for the Ceramic
Tile Institute of America in Culver City, CA. His duties there include
a teaching, conducting ceramic and stone tile inspections, and writing
specifications. When he is not working, Paul enjoys hunting, fishing,
riding ATV's, mountain and road cycling, and mountain hiking.
Paul began his work with DIY Network while
appearing in a Habitat for Humanity expose shot in North Carolina.
Now he hosts the popular DIY workshop, Tiling Techniques.
STARBUCKS
We're conducting a blood drive
each day at Florida's Largest Home Show.
Are you aware that Florida
blood supplies will only last for three days if we had a large disaster?
Give now while there's still time. Visit Booth TBA to donate.
Every summer the Tampa Police Department and
the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office put together a friendly competition
in effort to help us with our blood supply during the summer. Blood
supply drops to a very low margin during this time due to school close
for the summer, vacations, visitors go back home, among other things.
Yet, the demand for blood never takes a vacation. In doing this, non-active
staff from both TPD and HCSO help us recruit blood donors during the
summer. We have a special t-shirt that we give away to our donors
during this time. The art on the shirt is submitted by TPD and HCSO.
Saving
Green by Going Green
We've all heard
about "going green." However, the going green process can
be expensive and lengthy in terms of return on investment. Today's economy
demands more instant gratification. Florida homeowners face unique challenges.
Cooling the home is a major expense. Florida's Largest Home Show offers
many products and solutions to neutralize the ever-increasing energy
costs. Immediate savings can be realized with just a few changes.
The majority of heat enters your home through
the attic and windows and doors.
Solar powered attic ventilators - Attics reach
temperatures of more than 140 to 160 degrees in spite of soffits and
roof vents. During the course of a day, your attic insulation becomes
a giant heat blanket, forcing your air conditioning to run many more
hours than it should to cool the interior of your home. Solar powered
attic ventilators provide the only efficient means of reducing those
high temperatures to equal the ambient temperature outside.
Sunblocking screens - These innovative screens provide no limitation
of light, but reduce the heat entering your windows by 30 to 40%. They
increase privacy by limiting visibility from outside the home and help
protect furnishings from fading by blocking UV rays.
Variable speed A/C and dehumidifier - When the A/C system is turned
on and has brought the home to the desired temperature, it automatically
enters a maintenance mode that reduces energy use by 50%. The dehumidifier
runs 24 hours a day at very low energy costs, maintaining the absolute
perfect 40 to 45% relative humidity for maximum comfort. A home kept
at 78 degrees with the proper humidity will feel like 72 degrees.
Electronic energy management systems control every electrical device
in the home by only allowing that appliance to use the amount of electricity
that it needs to run properly without wasted energy. This can save more
than 20% monthly.
Now that we've identified and given solutions to help
conquer the major energy pigs, there are many other hi-tech energy-efficient
products that can improve the consumer's lifestyle and save dollars.
Steam washers and dryers while being energy efficient offer other benefits.
They provide 99.9% bacterial removal from clothes and eliminate wrinkling
due to the steam process. This can lead to a significant reduction in
dry cleaning costs.
Energy efficient refrigerators extend the shelf life of fruits, vegetables,
and meats up to 50% using temperature and humidity control compartments.
This reduces waste.
Induction cooking is the most efficient method of cooking. The magnetic
field heats the pot and the food, not the burner. This results in a
cooler kitchen and reduced cooking times. Water will boil in 90 seconds.
That's high performance.
Coconut shell charcoal produces no toxic fumes while cooking at nearly
twice the temperature of normal charcoal and half the cooking time for
efficient outdoor cooking.
The above are just a few of the energy-saving products
that will be displayed at Florida's Largest Home Show. There are many
new products that are innovative, cool, and fun.
ProSun Sunshower is a tanning system that can be installed in your shower,
bringing all the benefits of the sun to your bathroom. An additional
feature of The Sunshower is skin rejuvenation which is achieved by high-intensity
LEDs. This award-winning product will be debuting at Florida's Largest
Home Show.
Touchless products: Touchless flushing toilets, trash cans, soap dispensers,
hand dryers, shower controls, kitchen and bathroom faucets, touchless
and voice-activated lights, touchless door locks, interior and exterior.
These products reduce bacteria exposure and provide water savings and
no hot water waste.
Avalanche Scooter Bike is perfect for that quick trip to the store.
